World Refugee Day Poster - Final
On June 20, World Refugee Day, MAP BC hosted a celebration together with the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Local Immigration Partnership (VLIP) at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House.

We heard from former refugees who are now spokespeople in their communities:

Khatira Dharyabi

Çağri Koçyiğit

Sara Maria Lopez

Maya Mojtahed

And enjoyed the music of Anas Al Hassan and Ibrahim Saker.

At the same time the City of Vancouver Deputy Mayor read the Proclamation of World Refugee Day.

Over 100 community members attended to meet and mingle and enjoy a wonderful lunch catered by Flavours of Hope member Super Dishes.

*June 20 – World Refugee Day was established by the United Nations in 2001 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the UN Convention (1951) regarding the status of Refugees.  World Refugee Day is an international day to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.
