Refugee Claimant
- Make their own way to Canada – regular or irregular entry
- Need to make a claim for refugee protection
- Wait for Refugee Protection Hearing
- Have refugee claimant ID and can get a work and/or study permit
Government Assisted (GAR)
- Must be registered for refugee status with the UNHCR
- Apply overseas
- Get Permanent residency on arrival in Canada
- Receive support from the Government of Canada for one year
Privately Sponsored
- Must be registered for refugee status with the UNHCR
- Apply overseas
- Get Permanent residency on arrival in Canada
- Receive support by sponsorship group for one year
Blended Visa Office Referred (BVOR)
- Matches refugees identified by UNHCR with private sponsors
- Apply overseas
- Get Permanent residency on arrival in Canada
- Six months support by Government of Canada and six months support by private sponsor
